The morning the espresso machine lied

The machine claimed "ready" on its little red diode. It was not ready. The first pull came out pale and apologetic; the second seemed personally offended. I no longer trust indicator lights before the third quiet tick of the boiler.

Coffee here is taken seriously and prepared quickly, usually by someone who would rather you stop watching. I watched anyway. The result was a lesson in patience disguised as a beverage.
